Central Pollution Control Board is a statutory organization governed under Ministry of Environment Forest & Climate Change (MoEF & CC) established under Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution Act) 1974. CPCB also obtains its powers from Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 and Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. It has responsibilities to conduct monitoring of water and air quality along with maintenance and management of monitoring data. The board also works with industries and also with every form of government in very wide variety of voluntary pollution prevention programs and energy conservation efforts. It advises the central government to prevent and control water and air pollution. It also has its role to advice the Governments of Union Territories on industrial and other sources of water and air pollution for its control and prevention.
