EPR Framework: EPR under the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022, was notified on 22nd August, 2022. Obligated Entities: Producers of batteries and entities manufacturing batteries. The rules apply to batteries of different chemistries, shapes, volumes, weights and uses, and require producers to register with CPCB through the centralized online portal. Producers must fulfil their EPR obligations by ensuring recycling or refurbishing of waste batteries through registered recyclers and obtaining EPR certificates against the quantity recycled.

 EPR Framework: EPR on Used Oil was notified on 18th September, 2023, with effect from 1st April, 2024. Obligated Entities: Producers of base oil/lubrication oil and used oil importers. The framework applies to relevant producers, used oil importers, collection agents, bulk generators and recyclers. Implementation is through the centralized EPR portal developed by CPCB, with overall monitoring by the Steering Committee.

 EPR Framework: EPR under the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022, is effective from 1st April, 2023. Obligated Entities: Producers of electrical and electronic equipment covered under Schedule I. The rules also apply to relevant manufacturers, recyclers, refurbishers and dismantlers. Producers must meet recycling targets through registered recyclers, obtain EPR certificates through the CPCB portal and submit the required returns. The framework also provides for refurbishing certificates and environmental compensation in case of violations.

 EPR Framework: EPR for Waste Tyres was introduced through the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Amendment Rules, 2022. Obligated Entities: Producers of new tyres and importers of new or used tyres. The framework assigns EPR obligations based on the quantity of tyres manufactured or imported and requires the relevant waste tyres to be managed through approved recycling routes. EPR obligations apply to both new and used tyre imports.
